The lesson had already started by the time he shuffled in, slightly embarassed at the interruption. He was un-named, but wore a faded purple shirt and carried a big yellow plastic bag.
As contributions from men more learned than myself shaped the discourse on the "King of the Abyss", I marvelled at how much I could learn.
The monotony of voices was broken by the familiar rustling of a plastic bag and I saw that Mr Purple Shirt had retrieved two small packet drinks from the yellow carrier.
Must be thirsty
He deposited the drinks in front of his neighbour and produced several more packets. In a minute, everyone in the room had been paired with a tetrapack. Throughout the entire process, he smiled and bobbed his head kindly, as if apologetic about another round of interruption.
Wordlessly, he sat through the entire study. As we were leaving the room, he said to me "You are new here. Thank you for the points you shared"
In the gathering of people who will be leading their groups in bible study, I was duly impressed by the aggregate levels of diligence and intelligence, and wholly inspired by the example of servanthood. Thank you Mr Purple Shirt.
it's the ones who quietly serve who are the coolest, aren't they? :) so many deceptively ordinary-seeming role models around
